The former heavyweight title challenger (up to 120,2kg.), Derrick Lewis, surprised by making an unusual statement. The North American stated that he imagined he had been defeated by Blagoy Ivanov in one of the fights on the main card of the UFC 244, held last Saturday (2), in New York. In an interview with 'Ariel Helwani's MMA Show' the athlete commented that he was impressed with the judges' decision.

“I thought I lost that fight. I thought they would give Blagoy the victory,” she commented.
Derrick thought about the setback because he took into account the number of times he was taken to the ground by his rival, who adopted grappling as a strategy for victory. Even though he was taken down in every round, Ivanov's momentum on the ground was not enough to score over his opponent.
“I thought I was going to lose because of the falls. Just for that. I was also surprised by the victory. I thought he was going to try to elbow me and punch me while testing on top, but he didn't do that. I just had to keep my breath,” Lewis said.
The North American, however, despite being taken to his discomfort zone, managed, on some occasions, to explode and attack Blagoy, who was surprised by some counter blows, even swinging on a few occasions. However, even though he won, Derrick claims he could have performed better on the New York card.
“I could have done more than I did. I should have been more active instead of hesitating to punch and kick”, concluded the giant.
With the triumph, the American officially recovered from two consecutive defeats in his career. The combatant had been defeated by Daniel Cormier, former champion of the category, in contention for the belt in November last year and then for junior gypsy, in March of this year.
Unlike Lewis, Blagou had his two-win streak interrupted.
