Although Ultimate has not yet confirmed, Conor McGregor announced his return to the octagon for January 18th of next year, in Las Vegas. The news of the Irishman's return to the sport encouraged two athletes in particular. One of them, Justin gaethje, who is on the rise in his career, took the opportunity to challenge and criticize the Irishman on his official Twitter account.

“First a bantamweight (Frankie Edgar), now, a man I recently defeated (Donald Cerrone). I can fight in January. Let's show the world what a coward you are. I will not grab your neck when you are distracted and the fetal position is not an option,” Justin wrote.

This isn't the first time Gaethje has suggested a fight against Conor McGregor. After he defeated Edson Barbosa, in March of this year, the North American began a real hunt for the Irishman. Justin's request, however, was never fulfilled. However, the North American received the chance to face Donald Cerrone in a duel that would put him on the front line to face the winner between the champion Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson, which has everything to be a title fight.

With no real chance of acting as number one at the moment, Gaethje, therefore, wants a fight against Conor, who hasn't fought since October last year, when he was beaten by Khabib in a duel valid for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg). ).

In his last press conference, McGregor assured that he is ready to return to his performances. The fighter also criticized the fact that Ultimate was not responding to his requests. According to the Irishman, the company is largely responsible for his period of inactivity.

Even releasing the bombshell news, naming the exact date and location of the return, the company has not yet made the event official. The Irishman also said that the opponent has already been selected, but preferred to let the UFC announce it when convenient.

Currently, Justin occupies fourth place in the lightweight rankings, just one behind Conor. The American has 21 wins and just two defeats in his career. His last setback came in April last year, when he was beaten by the former interim champion, Dustin poirier.
