The former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.) Chris Weidman finally seems to have regained confidence in his qualities in MMA. After enduring an inconsistent series of fights for the UFC, the North American, who will make his debut in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg.) in ufc boston, believes that a good performance on Dominick reyes can guarantee him as the new challenger for the title belonging to Jon Jones. The statement was made in an interview with 'UFC Unfiltered'.

"Depends on me. If I dominate Dominick reyes, I will face Jon Jones. That is the goal. I want to beat the best,” said the American.

Weidman's thinking is based on the fact that the legendary 'Bones' has already defeated most of the potential challengers in his division. Of the top three in the rankings, all of them faced the champion and left the Octagon defeated.

“Practically all the athletes in the top 5 have already been defeated by Jon Jones. This kind of gives me the possibility of jumping a few positions in the ranking and getting to the top. If the UFC and the fans think so, it makes sense. But first, I have to prove myself within the division. Otherwise, none of this matters,” commented Chris.

To be in a position to challenge 'Bones', however, the former middleweight champion will have a really difficult task. From the front, in ufc boston, which takes place on October 18th, the athlete will not only have the mission of winning in his debut in the new category, but also of putting an end to the unbeaten run of one of the athletes who is considered one of the most promising in the division.

Dominick reyes, 29 years old, has never lost since he debuted in MMA. In total, the Californian has already competed in 11 fights; five of them for Ultimate.

To win, Chris must also put an end to the bad phase he is facing in his career. Since he lost the belt of his old category, when he was beaten by Luke Rockhold, in 2015, the athlete suffered three defeats in four fights; the last, when he was beaten by Ronaldo Jacare in a fight that he dominated until the third round.

The last performance of Jon Jones happened in July, at UFC 239, when the athlete successfully defended his title on yet another occasion. The North American emerged victorious over the Brazilian Thiago Marreta in the judges' split decision in what is considered their most balanced clash.
