Although he is joining the group of athletes who work after the age of 40, by accepting the trilogy against Stipe Miocic Daniel made it clear that this will be his last commitment as a professional MMA athlete.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani ('ESPN' reporter), the fighter commented on the case and said that the biggest motivation for his career at the moment is to carry out the rematch and, soon after, retire; losing or winning.

“The next one will be the last one, but it has to be Stipe (Miocic). No one else matters. They want to do this fight, they want me to fight Stipe again. It was a fantastic fight, it was a fantastic fight for all the wrong reasons, it didn't need to be a fantastic fight, but it was”, commented the athlete.

The defeat to Miocic fell like a shower of cold water on the UFC board of directors, who were analyzing the possibilities of Cormier having a third fight against Jon Jones, his eternal rival, however, in the heavyweight category. The two athletes had already declared their desire to have a new fight, however, with Miocic sporting the belt, the promotion of a new fight between Daniel and 'Bones' ended up losing a good percentage of its meaning without a belt at stake.

There still isn't even a speculated date for Stipe and DC to exchange forces again. According to one of the champion's representatives, the fighter is recovering from eye injuries resulting from the fight against Daniel. Miocic has already stated that he is eager to defend his title, but only when he is 100%.

If Cormier fulfills his promise and hangs up his gloves after the next challenge, the athlete will have completed his 26th career fight. To date, at 25, the fighter has 22 wins, two losses and one fight without result (2017).
