At flyweight (up to 56,7kg), Sarah Frota has been living a real nightmare in recent days. After being caught in an anti-doping test and testing positive for performance-enhancing anabolic steroids, the athlete was suspended for two years from professional fights and even had her contract with the UFC cancelled. The information was recently released by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and confirmed by the Brasilia native on her Instagram account. The entity issued a note clarifying the Brazilian woman’s situation.

“Frota Lima (Sarah), age 32, tested positive for multiple metabolites of Stanozolol as a result of an in-competition urine sample she provided on July 27, 2019, following UFC 240 Edmonton (Canada), where she lost by technical knockout,” USADA officials wrote in the statement.
After granting the punishment to the athlete, the UFC board, according to information released by 'MMA Fighting', the fighter had her commitment to the organization broken and, therefore, is no longer part of the company's group of fighters.
On her official Instagram account, the athlete confirmed what happened and even stated that, in fact, she was released by Ultimate. In the images, the fighter states that she may have been the victim of ingesting a contaminated supplement, thanks her for the support and states that she will continue fighting.
“As some may already know, I was suspended and fell into doping. I have a clear conscience, I did nothing wrong, but, unfortunately, some contaminated supplement led us to this situation. The UFC terminated the contract with us, but we will continue fighting”, said the athlete.
Sarah signed a contract with the company in August last year, after becoming one of the winning athletes to participate in the 'Dana White Contender Series', one of the UFC's reality shows. On that occasion, the Brasilia native beat compatriot Maiara dos Santos by knockout in the first round.
After going through the program, Frota made his first appointment as an official representative of Ultimate. With a clash scheduled for February this year, Sarah was unsuccessful in her debut. The Brazilian ended up being defeated by Livinha Souza in the unanimous decision of the judges in a fight valid for the UFC Fortaleza preliminary card.
Frota had the chance to redeem herself precisely at the event in which she was caught. At UFC Edmonton, in July, the athlete faced the Canadian Gillian robertson. In the new confrontation, the fighter ended up suffering the first knockout of her career, and the second within the organization.
Before joining the group of Ultimate athletes, Sarah had an undefeated professional record, with nine matches without defeat.
