When you defeated Mike Perry, in August, the Brazilian Vincent Luque asked the Ultimate board for a confrontation against Sthepen Thompson. Knowing the challenge, the North American agreed to face his rival and it was up to the company to confirm the confrontation for the UFC 244, which takes place on November 2nd in New York. Showing awareness of the dangers of facing Luque, Thompson stated that he was aiming for a fight against Rafael dos Anjos, but agreed to face a rising athlete. Vicente is considered one of the Brazilian promises among the welterweights (77kg.), which, today, has, besides Luque, only two Brazilian representatives among the top 15 (Demian Maia and Dos Anjos). The athlete likes fighting on the feet, despite having excellent performance in grappling.
His physical strength and ability to erase his opponents with efficient sequences of blows have earned Luque four knockouts in his last six clashes. The athlete has not lost since his setback to Leon edwards, in a fight that took place in March 2017. After the negative result, the Brazilian no longer knew what it was like to lose in Ultimate.
In their last appointment, Vicente and Mike Perry They fought a real war inside the octagon. The North American was even the protagonist of one of the strongest images of all UFC editions in 2019. After a flying knee that hit Perry square in the nose, the athlete suffered an impressive fracture to his face, which left his appearance disfigured.
Thompson reported that he was watching the confrontation and praised Luque's performance.

Thompson is a two-time division title challenger. On both occasions he failed to win the belt. In one (2016), he was tied against Tyron woodley and, in the other (2017), he was defeated in a split decision by the judges.
