Face the former featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and lightweight (up to 70,3kg) champion, Conor McGregor, has already been a goal sought by many Ultimate athletes. However, due to the Irishman's inactivity in the company, the dream of sharing the octagon with the 'Notorious' seems to have been erased by some, such as Donald Cerrone. According to the American, it no longer makes sense to fight Conor, as he prefers to fight for the belt. The statement was made in a recent interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“Do you think he will come back? I mean, wow, there's been a lot of talk over the years. For me, chasing this fight doesn't make any sense anymore”, said the 'Cowboy'.

The duel between Conor and Cerrone was already considered by the company after the Irishman publicly praised Donaldo's performance after his victory over Alexander Hernandez, in a duel that took place in January of this year. On that occasion, the fighters even made a verbal commitment for a future meeting. However, the fight was never scheduled.

Some athletes began to criticize the Irishman's stance, who has not had an official MMA fight since October last year, when he was beaten by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a duel valid for the lightweight title. Donald is one of the fighters who disagree with the fact that the 'Notorious' continues to choose fights, while he stops moving the category's ranking.

"You will return? So stop talking nonsense and get back in line, man!”, said Cerrone, referring directly to Conor.

By ruling out a meeting with McGregor, Donald, who faces his compatriot Justin gaethje this Saturday (14), stated that, if he emerges victorious in the UFC Vancouver, sees no other opponent than the division champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian, however, defended his title against Dustin poirier and should not return to the octagon this year. Furthermore, the 'Eagle' has also confirmed his desire to face Tony Ferguson or Georges St-Pierre.

Outside of the Russian's list, Donald has already confirmed the possibility of playing at welterweight until the end of the year, while Khabib's situation remains unresolved.
