It's been a month since Thiago Marreta imposed the Jon Jones the most difficult commitment of the unquestionable athlete's career. After a real battle in UFC 239, in which 'Bones' retained his title in the judges' split decision, the Brazilian is still recovering from the 'marks' left in the fight. With serious injuries to both knees, the Rio native is undergoing treatment in the United States, after undergoing surgery and states that his focus is on winning the belt, not a new fight against Jones. The statement was made in a recent interview with UFC.

“As for the rematch, I don’t know. There's plenty of time until then. A lot can happen. My main focus is the belt and not Jon Jones. I don't know if he'll still be champion, but when I'm 100%, I want to fight again. I want to come back soon”, said the light heavyweight.

Thiago underwent a procedure to treat the total tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, in addition to a fracture in the tibia and partial tears in the collateral ligament and meniscus. On the right, the fighter underwent meniscus correction surgery. Just over a month after the process, the athlete from Cidade de Deus (RJ) said that the worst part is over and that the recovery is progressing well.

"I'm a lot better. The first few weeks were very difficult. Much pain. I couldn't do almost anything. So, it's a boring moment. But now I'm already driving and getting around with crutches. In a little while, I will be without crutches”, said the former challenger.

Marreta, who has not yet been able to return to Brazil since his fight for the belt, took the opportunity to send a message to his compatriots, revealing that he will soon be in Tupiniquin lands to satisfy his longing. The Rio native undergoes his treatment in Las Vegas, where the UFC has an athlete recovery center.

“I wanted to send a hug and thank everyone for their love, from before the fight until the moment I'm post-surgery. People have been sending lots of messages of affection. I'm missing Brazil and I'll be back soon”, concluded the fighter.

PUBLICITY:

after the UFC 239, Jones revealed that Marreta was the toughest opponent he ever shared the octagon with. The North American, who is considered by many to be the best MMA athlete of all time, had a difficult time against the Rio de Janeiro native and almost lost the match.

Thiago's recovery period is around eight months, according to doctors who examined the athlete. The Rio native would then be ready to play around March of next year.
