After UFC Newark, held last Saturday (3), in the United States, the North American, Colby covington, showed that he is a potential opponent to face the current welterweight champion (up to 77kg.), Kamaru Usman. Covington defeated Robbie Lawler after dominating his compatriot for five rounds and, after the event, he was placed face to face with the Nigerian in an interview with 'ESPN'. The meeting generated tension at certain times due to the exchange of barbs between the athletes, who challenged each other and increased expectations for a future confrontation.

“The only thing you're going to lose faster than your hair is that Power Ranger belt of yours. Stop faking injuries. You're out for eight months with a hernia injury. It takes six weeks to recover. Stop faking injuries. You are the Tyron woodley 2.0″, said Covington.

The possible challenger provoked the champion, who is away from the sport as he recovers from surgery to treat two herniated discs. The last time the Nigerian entered the Octagon was in March of this year, when he defeated Woodley in a unanimous decision by the judges and became the division title holder.

In response, Kamaru stated that Colby followed his provocations because he knew that the place was full of security guards, and that there was no possibility of the two getting into a direct confrontation. North Americans are known for not keeping their tongues and saying what they think, regardless of the repercussions of their actions.

“He talks a lot because he knows there are a lot of security guards here in front of us. We’ve already seen your videos”, commented the champion.

Asked about what qualities Usman would have that could be used as an advantage in a possible confrontation, Covington minimized the champion's skills.

“He’s no good. Where is he good? He beat guys that I also beat. He beat up guys I left for dead. Rafael dos Anjos, Demian Maia, I left them to die. He came and got the leftovers after me. He's a joke. He’s following in my footsteps,” concluded Colby.

During the conversation, Usman was open to the possibility of the fight taking place on November 2, at least UFC 244, in Las Vegas. So far, only the struggle between Derrick Lewis e Blagoy Ivanov is confirmed to happen.
