Morro do Alemão opens martial arts room

Morro do Alemão, in Rio de Janeiro, gained another important ally to remove young people from crime and help with integration with the community. The site received a Martial Arts Training Center.

Community residents will now take wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA classes, all under the command of Robson Relma, leader of the Relma Combat team, who previously served his students on a rooftop in Vila Cruzeiro.

“The real purpose of this martial arts room is not only to train champions and raise the self-esteem of young people, but to generate opportunities and emancipate autonomy. Who knows, maybe a physical education teacher, physiotherapist or sports journalist will emerge from here. Through this opportunity, many will be linked directly or indirectly to sport, this is the most important thing”, said Allan Borges, Superintendent of State and Social Assistance of Rio de Janeiro.

Robson Relma was all smiles during the inauguration: “Now people from the community have to value this great incentive, tatami mats and new equipment in this brand new room, even with air conditioning. New ‘Chatubas’ will certainly come out of here”, stated the coach and teacher.
