One of the biggest names in the history of MMA, Jon Jones admits that he can follow in his rival's footsteps, Daniel Cormier and move to the heavy category (up to 120,2kg). Currently holding the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg.) the athlete said he intends to move up a category, but fulfilling his obligations in his current division. The statement was made in a recent interview with 'ESPN'.

“I'm interested in fighting at heavyweight, but I'm also aware that I have a lot of work to do at light heavyweight. There are big fights that people want to see me do at light heavyweight. So, there's no reason for me to move up a category now. I’m doing well here,” Jones said.

The athlete, however, stated that, when the UFC finds a way to seduce him with a good challenge and financially, he will be able to think about a change of scenery again.

“When Ultimate comes to me and deals with a fight that they consider unmissable and comes with prices that I like, if it makes sense to me, I'll do it. But for now, I'm happy and I'm dominant in my division”, commented 'Bones'.

Even though he has an appointment scheduled for the light heavyweight division, whenever Jon gives an interview, the name of his eternal rival, Daniel Cormier, appears as an agenda. The athlete confesses that he does not understand the reason for the pressure for being mentioned in the same conversation. This time, as on other occasions, Jones showed no excitement for a possible repeat of a duel between them.

“There is still a lot of interest from people in seeing me face Daniel Cormier, For some reason. The first time, I beat him by unanimous decision of the judges; the second, I defeated him by knockout. I don't know why people want to see this. But, if it’s a fight that everyone wants to see, I believe the UFC will make it happen”, concluded the fighter.

Jon Jones has his next appointment scheduled for this Saturday (6), at UFC 239. In the game, the public will see the North American exchanging forces with the Brazilian Thiago Marreta for the light heavyweight title.

Jones regained his belt (removed after being accused in a doping case) in 2018, after crashing Alexander Gustafson. Since then, 'Bones' has defended his belt once, says Anthony Smith, in March of this year.
