The champion of bantamweight (61,2kg.) and featherweight (up to 65,7kg.), Amanda nunes, confirmed his desire to defend his second belt before retiring from MMA. The athlete declared her desire to share the Octagon with her compatriot again Chris Cyborg, whom he dethroned in December last year, for believing that the division of penalties is too stagnant. The information was disclosed in a recent interview with 'MMA Junkie.

“I think this is a fight to make. You know, the feather division is dead now. There is no one in that division. Cyborg was the most dominant woman on the planet. I don't think she imagined that she would lose to me, and as quickly as it did. She thinks she wants to prove something, but she knows she will be defeated again. But I think we should give her a rematch. It’s everything the fans want,” explained Nunes.
On the average day, which occurred in the week preceding the UFC 239, next Saturday (6), however, Amanda caused controversy when she said that the Curitiba native was offered an immediate rematch so that Cyborg could try to win back her belt. According to the 'Leoa', her compatriot rejected the fight. The fact was reaffirmed by UFC president, Dana White, but promptly denied by Cris.
One of the factors that make it difficult for a new duel to take place again is the complicated relationship established between the Ultimate board and the former featherweight champion. Both parties have publicly criticized each other, which could impede the progress of negotiations.
Another impediment is the fact that Cyborg's current contract with the organization has ended. Cris only has one more commitment, which is already scheduled for July 27th, at UFC 240. After that, the Curitiba native is free to sign a contract with other companies.
The fight between the athletes, which took place at the end of last year, was highly anticipated. Nunes, at the time, emerged as a big underdog in the bookmakers, as a result of the great prestige and respect with which Cyborg is treated in the MMA world, for being, for so long, one of the most dominant athletes in history. The outcome, however, surprised everyone. Less than a minute into the fight, Amanda managed a beautiful knockout over her compatriot and became the first woman to win two belts in different categories in UFC history.
Even though she reveals her desire to face Cris, Amanda has a big commitment scheduled for next Saturday. The Brazilian defends her bantamweight belt for the fourth time. In front of her she will have a former title holder, the American Holly holm. The fight will represent the co-main event of the night.
