GLORY 66 took place this Saturday (22), in Paris, and Brazil did well. Light heavyweight Felipe Micheletti beat Cape Verdean Dutchman Luis Tavares by split decision, and should soon be announced as the next challenger for the organization's under-95kg belt

Micheletti and Tavares fought evenly from the first moments. The Brazilian used strong medium kicks with his left to break his opponent's rhythm and sharp dodges. With feints and counterattacks, Tavares scored better in the first round. Micheletti cashed in the second half. In the final round, moments of advantage alternated again, but the kickboxer from São Paulo convinced the judges that he was more efficient, and thus ended up declared the winner.
“In GLORY there are no easy fights. This was my second win in a row. I am always ready for any situation. If the organization thinks the time has come (to fight for the belt), we'll go all out. Otherwise, we will continue to evolve”, said Micheletti, shortly after the challenge.

Pure dominance

In the women's bantamweight (up to 55.3kg), champion Anissa Meksen (France) faced Sweden's Sofia Olofsson, in a clash that pitted two fighters with the most efficient punch volume average in the category face to face. But the invoice was settled quickly. Meksen soon landed a high left kick that opened her opponent's eyebrow. Then, another barrage of blows forced the referee to stop the fight and declare a technical knockout for the Frenchwoman, who once again establishes herself as one of the most dominant champions in the sport.
“I want to continue making history at GLORY. I face anyone. Even a man needs it”, said Meksen, still in the ring

Fair?

In the light heavyweight division (up to 95kg), champion Artem Vakhitov (Russia) returned to the ring after a year off due to an injury to his right hand, and faced the Surinamese/Dutch Donegi Abena. The fight started evenly, but the Russian started to feel the time away from the fourth half and slowed down the offensive pace. The fifth round began with the scoreboard showing two rounds drawn and one won for each fighter. In the end, the victory by split decision went to the champion, a fact instantly contested by the public.

Monster

At welterweight (under 77kg), French-Cameroonian champion Cedric Doumbé proved once again that he is one of the best pound-for-pound kickboxers in the world. In the rematch against Azerbaijani Alim Nabiyev (who had beaten him in edition 51), he took advantage of a knee from his opponent's careless guard to land a powerful right cross and send him to the canvas for the first time. The Azeri returned, but was promptly knocked out with another relentless series of punches.
