For many MMA enthusiasts, Chael Sonnen he will be greatly missed. After being one of the victims of the Brazilian Lyoto Machida, last Friday (14), at Bellator 222, the 'American Gangster' announced his retirement from MMA for the second time. In a good mood, the athlete made a publication on his official Twitter account, this Tuesday morning (18), about doping incidents during his career.

Sonnen became known in MMA for his acidic statements and the way he promoted his fights. Despite never having won an official title in his career as a mixed martial artist, the athlete, due to the great charisma he had with the UFC, fought for the belt on three occasions. Two, for the middleweight title (up to 83,9kg), against the Brazilian Anderson Silva (in 2010 and 2012); and another with Jon Jones, at light heavyweight (up to 93kg.), in 2013, when the two were coaches on TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) 17.

On each occasion, Chael was defeated. The time he came closest to the belt, however, was in 2010, when he punished Silva for five rounds, but was surprised by a submission with just a few seconds left in the fight.

Sonnen, on another occasion, made fun of his problems with drug tests. In 2014, the athlete admitted his mistake and received the maximum penalty, which took him away from the sport for two years.

“One time my phone rang and they were telling me my testosterone level was high. I asked what the minimum was and I was only a tenth above what was allowed. I had them redo the test, as they must have caught me on a day with a low level”, joked Chael.

Despite his failures, Chael managed to become a popular athlete in the MMA world. There are those who say that the fighter carries a character with him, but, however, when the cameras turn off, he is an extremely friendly person.

The American leaves his career at the age of 42 and has a record of 47 fights, 31 wins, 15 losses and one draw. During his almost 20-year career, the 'Gangster' beat fighters like Wanderlei Silva, Quinton jackson, Mauritius Shogun e Michael Bisping.
