Colby Covington fires back at Jon Jones: 'I destroyed him in college'

Welterweight athlete says he used to beat light heavyweight champion in wrestling matches in the past

The loudmouth Colby covington he once again caused controversy in the world of MMA. The target this time was the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.), Jon Jones. In a recent interview with the program 'B.J. Penn Radio' the athlete confessed that he used to defeat 'Bones' in wrestling duels when he was in college. The athlete stated that he would easily defeat Jon in a fight.

“I will destroy Jon. I destroyed it in college, man. I knocked him head over heels every day of training,” Colby said.

The statement, according to the fighter, can even be confirmed by people who witnessed the training sessions.

“You can ask anyone at the Iowa Wrestling Center who was there while we were training. I would love to get my hands on Jones,” Covington teased.

The welterweight also revealed that, if there was no ingestion of turinabol (an anabolic steroid found in the body of Jon Jones in 2017, which culminated in the athlete's retirement from fighting for 15 months), he would not be the fighter he is today.

“If he didn't have those pictograms in his system, he wouldn't be the same fighter he is today. He’s a piece of sh*t,” Colby teased.

Covington has already been involved in other controversial cases in the world of martial arts. One of the most well-known cases among Brazilians was when the athlete criticized Brazil after defeating Demian Maia No. UFC Sao Paulo, in 2017. At the time, the North American called the country 'trash'.

At 31 years old, Colby currently ranks second in the welterweight division, behind only Tyron woodley and the current champion, Kamaru Usman. His last commitment took place in June last year, when he defeated the Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos in the fight for the interim belt in the category, at UFC 225, in Chicago (USA).

In his professional record, Covington has 15 fights and only one defeat, when he was submitted by Warlley alves at UFC 194 in 2015.
