Anderson Silva praises José Aldo: 'He's much better than me'

Brazilian idol returns to Brazil next Saturday on a star-studded card after almost nine years without performing in his country

Considered by many to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Anderson Silva stated that José Aldo He's a better fighter. In a recent interview with 'Combate', 'Spider' spoke about his career and the expectation of his duel next weekend. Silva will face Jared Cannonier in the co-main event of the night at UFC 237, on Saturday (11).

“I think Aldo is much better. José Aldo He's a great fighter. A great name. One of the biggest names we have in sport and has to be respected. Aldo is a great athlete and everyone knows it. In my opinion, he is a better fighter than me”, said the athlete.

Ultimate returns to Brazil with big names from world MMA and features as its main fight the clash between Jessica Andrade, the 'Bate-Estaca', against Rose namajunas for the world strawweight title (up to 52,1kg.). The fight for the belt, however, is not the only attraction of the card. Rio de Janeiro will host renowned stars from the world of fighting who will perform in the capital; among them, the legend B.J. Penn, which drew praise from Silva.

Silva's opponent is, in addition to being almost 10 years younger, known for his great strength. At 35 years old, the athlete, in his 15 fights as a professional, won seven fights by knockout. However, the 'Spider' was prepared for the duel.

“He is an opponent who comes from heavyweight. He has a much larger footprint than the others. He has fought in three different categories. He’s a guy that I have to be careful about when I play,” explained Silva.

Anderson was once considered the biggest name in Ultimate, when he dominated the middleweight category (up to 83,9kg) for almost seven years. Incomparable for many, even at 44 years old, the Brazilian continues to attract audiences to his performances. His last duel took place against the current (linear) champion of the category, Israel adesanya, in February this year.

Your compatriot, José Aldo, former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg), has not fought in Rio de Janeiro since 2017, when he was defeated by Max Holloway in the fight for the category belt.
