The fans of Conor McGregor they can get excited again. Dana White announced in an interview that the Irishman could return to the octagons by September. The information was released to 'The Jim Rome Show', last Tuesday (7). The 'Notorious' opponent could be Donald Cerrone, who is going through a great phase in his career.

A potential opponent for McGregor could be Donald Cerrone. Coming from three consecutive victories, the 'Cowboy' had already suggested a duel against the Irishman at the beginning of the year. At the time, Conor readily accepted the challenge after Cerrone's spectacular performance against Alexander Hernandez, in January this year. The fight did not take place due to too many demands on the part of the 'Notorious', who even requested the purchase of shares in Ultimate, which would make him an official partner of the company. The request, however, was denied by the board, resulting in the Irishman's withdrawal.

The game, however, seems to have changed. With the victory over To the fifth At UFC Ottawa, last weekend, Cerrone finally entered the top 5 of the division, ranking exactly one position behind McGregor.

The marriage of the fight, for White, today, makes more sense than ever, considering that it would be a direct dispute for a place in the ranking and signaling a future dispute for the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg.), which currently belongs to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“The fight against Cerrone makes sense. There are other possibilities. He talked about fighting Cerrone at some point. I really don’t know, but this fight makes sense”, concluded White.

Another possibility would be a confrontation between the Irishman and the former interim champion of the category, Tony Ferguson. The American announced earlier this week that he is ready to return to Ultimate. Recently the athlete was away due to personal problems. Currently, Ferguson is at the top of the division, behind only Khabib and Dustin poirier (interim champion).
