After Michael Bisping was summoned to replace injured Mark Munoz in the fight against Chael Sonnen at UFC on Fox 2, the Brazilian Demian Maia had been left without an opponent in the event scheduled for January 28th, in Chicago, in the United States. But the Ultimate organization acted quickly and already announced the São Paulo black belt's new opponent. Demian, who is coming off a victory over compatriot Jorge Santiago at UFC 136, faces the undefeated Chris Weidman. The announcement was made by UFC president, Dana White via Twitter.
According to Dana, Rousimar Toquinho, who fought last Saturday (14), at UFC Rio 2, was invited to face Demian, but refused the duel.
Weidman, who has a professional record with seven victories, caught the public's attention due to his performances in the UFC. The North American won all his fights in the organization, completely dominating his opponents. In his last appearance, Chris submitted Tom Lawlor with a choke at UFC 139. In turn, Demian is trying to get back on track to get a chance to fight for the middleweight division title again. With a record of 15 wins and just three losses, he comes from a sequence of three victories in his last four appearances in Ultimate.
