Dana White admits: 'Jon Jones could have been the biggest star of all time'

In his podcast, the president of Ultimate highlighted the qualities of the former champion, but regrets that the fighter did not strive to become the biggest star in mixed martial arts

With one of the most impressive MMA careers, Jon Jones He is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and in 23 professional fights he has only lost one to Matt Hamill in 2009. Currently what draws the most attention is his life outside the octagon, which is why UFC president Dana White on the Podcast “ MMARoasted” stated that the fighter could have been the biggest star in mixed martial arts if he hadn't sabotaged himself.

“What’s really frustrating is, imagine if this guy tried. Imagine if he tried just a little. Imagine how incredibly amazing this guy could have been. He could have been the biggest star of all time,” White said.

Before winning the light heavyweight belt in 2011, Jones was involved in a traffic accident, and the police cleared him of blame for the accident. A woman who was driving the other car was taken to the hospital on a stretcher. In 2012, the light heavyweight champion was arrested for an accident and drunk driving. Two women who were with him in the car suffered injuries in the incident. The fighter was released after paying bail of one thousand dollars and underwent a refresher course to regain his driver's license.

After Jones beat Cormier for the first time, at UFC 182 in 2015, “Bones” failed a drug test for cocaine use for the first time. In 2016, Jon was caught in a doping test for the second time after his victory over Ovince St-Preux. He proved in trials that he had been a victim of contamination from a sexual stimulant. The last one was in 2017 after beating Daniel for the second time. He was caught using the anabolic steroid turinabol.

“The whole story of Jon Jones makes me crazy. Honestly, Jon Jones, he’s the greatest of all time, he’s the greatest of all time,” declared Dana.

“God knows what he would have accomplished in the light heavyweight division and then the heavyweight division. Maybe he had a light heavyweight title defense record that would never have been broken… everything this guy could have done was unbelievable,” laments White.
