Jon “Bones” Jones, former light heavyweight champion, remains among the best fighters in the history of mixed martial arts with an enviable resume. On Wednesday (30), the American fighter declared on his Twitter that he considers himself the true UFC light heavyweight champion.
Jon “Bones” Jones won the light heavyweight belt in 2011 with a knockout over the Brazilian Mauritius Shogun. He defended his belt seven times and broke the record for victories in the category.

In 2015, Bones won by unanimous decision Daniel Cormier, but due to legal problems he lost the belt and was suspended. Last year, Jones had his rematch against DC and won by knockout. Jones failed a USADA drug test and was stripped of the title again.
Currently, Jon is ten months and provisionally suspended by USADA.
This Wednesday, “Bones” responded to a follower on his Twitter: “Thanks brother, yes, I know I don't need to hold the belt to be the champion. I’m sure every light heavyweight [light heavyweight] knows that too,” Jones said.
Thanks brother, yeah I know I don't need to hold that belt to be the champion. Sure the whole top five knows that too https://t.co/6UfzdcX0Nr

Soon after, the fighter responded to his own “tweet” which was deleted. “I don't need the physical belt or even being in the rankings to know that I'm the champion. It's something I feel in my heart. I know what I did. I know what I’m going to do,” Jones said in this deleted Tweet.
