Ultimate president Dana White said this week that the UFC intends to end weigh-ins in the morning. The process was implemented in June 2016 and aims to give fighters more time to recover for the events that take place the following day. The fact generated controversy among athletes who believe that returning to the old model is a step backwards.

In an interview with the website “Combate.com”, Rafael dos Anjos believes that by weighing in the morning there is more recovery time. “I think that at (weigh-in) in the morning the fighter has more time to recover, but for those who lose more weight, I think the afternoon is more advantageous. But people will continue to dehydrate themselves there in the same way, that won't change. Against Eddie Alvarez, I felt sick, I went to take a bath in the morning and passed out three times, I almost hit my head on the bath tap. It was kind of dramatic,” he said.
Contrary to what you think, RDA, the middleweight champion,Robert whittaker claims to be happy with the return of the old model. “Personally, I like the morning weigh-in. For my reasons, it's nice to be able to rehydrate longer, but I'm happy to be able to go back to the old way. I think there are athletes who are pushing the limits and making things difficult for themselves, and I want them to suffer a little more, if you know what I mean,” he explained.
In these two years of implementation, three times as many fighters failed to make weight in their respective categories. Before the morning weigh-in, 22 fighters missed weight. While after the new system, 62 athletes were unable to reach the limits of their categories.
