Eddie Alvarez had already revealed last week that he would not fight in the UFC without his contract being renewed. In his podcast 'Unfiltered', the president of the event, Dana White stated that the negotiation with Alvarez is practically resolved.

“I saw Eddie saying ‘the UFC is playing’ and everything. I called him and said, 'Eddie, there are no games.' His manager literally told us that he wanted to evaluate the market, see how much he could get. I told them that first they said they wanted to evaluate other offers and now I saw him saying he won't fight without a new contract,” said Dana.
Alvarez revealed his desire to stay in the UFC, but that they should stop trying to manipulate. “So this kind of situation is always better when you sit down face to face, so we met in Philadelphia, talked some s*** about the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers and then we talked. It was a great meeting. So, I have a very good feeling that we will close something with Eddie and that we will do this fight against Poirier”, said the UFC president.
Alvarez and Dustin faced each other at UFC 211 in May 2017 and ended with a controversial 'no contest' result. The next meeting between Alvares and Dustin poirier is planned for July 2018.
