Still recovering from a hand injury after the victory over Kelvin Gastelum, the former champion Chris Weidman admits that a fight with Ronaldo Jacare, recently requested by the Brazilian himself, interests him. However, the American prefers to face the winner of the duel for the interim middleweight belt. Luke Rockhold e Yoel romero face each other for the interim division title at UFC 221.

In an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting, Weidman praised Jacaré highly, but declared that he would like to fight for the belt, especially if Rockhold emerges victorious over Romero.

“I can see myself having the potential to get in there for a title fight, maybe against the winner of that fight that's going to happen. It will depend on Whittaker's health. I want a rematch with Rockhold, which should have already happened (…) If not, there's Jacaré, who just had a big victory. I wouldn't care if it was that fight. I love Jacaré. I'm a big fan of his. I think it would be a good test for me. We've been around in the division for a long time. We have never fought and I would love to take that test and face him. I am very confident that I will fight for the belt again soon, and win it”, commented the American.

The triumph over Gastelum, achieved in July last year, interrupted a sequence of three consecutive defeats for the former executioner of Anderson Silva. Before the victory in UFC Long Island, Weidman had lost, in sequence, to Rockhold, Romero and Gegard Mousasi.
