Georges St Pierre made history at the beginning of last November when he won the UFC middleweight belt at UFC 217. However, his adventure in the category should stop there. Former owner of the welterweight title and considered the greatest fighter of all time in that category, the Canadian admits that he intends to return to his home division.

In this scenario, GSP would give up the belt won over Michael Bisping. In an interview with Canadian broadcaster TSN, St. Pierre admitted that his strategy to gain weight was not the right one and that is why he wants to return.
“We’re going to talk about that yet, but I don’t know. I'm not sure if I'll compete at middleweight again. I don't think so (…) Of course, in terms of gaining mass, I'll have to change some things if I go back. Eating the way I did was wrong. I shouldn't force myself to gain muscle mass. I have always been against steroids and performance enhancing drugs and gained mass naturally. There is no easy way. I did it the hard way and gained mass and kept mass. But it wasn't healthy. I think the body has an ideal weight so that it can perform at the best of its abilities and my perfect weight is not average”, analyzed GSP.
A few weeks after UFC 217, Dana White revealed that St. Pierre has been suffering from colitis, an inflammatory disease that affects the colon. It is speculated that the illness was a side effect of GSP's weight gain. Colitis has prevented the Canadian from returning to the Octagon sooner, whether as a middleweight or welterweight.
