Maurício Shogun could return to UFC in August

In an interview given today (05), the fighter's manager, Eduardo Alonso, revealed that negotiations for Shogun's return to the octagon are already underway. According to Alonso, UFC president Dana White said that the lack of fight rhythm may have affected the Brazilian's performance in the fight against Jones and that he wants to see the UDL athlete in action in the Ultimate within a few months.

“We are already talking to UFC officials about Shogun’s next fight. After the defeat to Jon Jones, White went to our locker room and told us to let him know as soon as he (Shogun) is ready to fight again”, said the businessman.

The Brazilian's team believes that the fighter may already be ready to fight in August, the month in which UFC Rio will be held. Also according to Alonso, the former champion did not suffer any serious injuries in his last fight, but he will have to stay inactive until May, when the medical suspension imposed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after UFC 128 expires.

 

“I hope Shogun is back in the UFC in August. Fortunately, nothing serious happened to him, just swelling around his eye, nothing more. He will soon return to training”, concluded Alonso.
