Former UFC heavyweight champion, junior gypsy He played the role of a groupie behind the scenes at the 2016 Olympic Games. The fighter from Santa Catarina made a point of recording the meeting with none other than Michael Phelps, one of the biggest stars of the Rio de Janeiro competitions.

Cigano met with Phelps after the end of the pool events and was impressed by the swimmer's size, taller than the Brazilian heavyweight. “Even in terms of size, he doesn’t want to lose. I became small”, joked Cigano, in a post registered on Instagram.

At the Rio Games, Phelps became the most successful athlete in the history of the Olympics. The 31-year-old North American won five victories and one runner-up in Brazil, totaling 23 golds, three silvers and two bronzes in his Olympic career.

Cigano, 32, was UFC heavyweight champion between 2011 and 2012. In his last fight, at UFC Croatia, the Brazilian defeated Ben Rotwhell by judges' decision. His next appearance in the Octagon has not yet been confirmed.
