The Brazilian Fabio Maldonado came very close to making history this Friday (17). In the main fight of the Fight Night 50 event, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the “Steel Hillbilly” narrowly missed out on knocking out MMA legend Fedor Emeleianko, and ended up losing in a controversial decision by the judges.
Still in the first round, Maldonado managed to connect with a well-aimed cross, which knocked Emelianenko down. The Russian fought to survive, while the Brazilian went all out with his eyes on what would be the biggest victory of his career. However, Fedor managed to survive and took the fight to the end.
After 15 minutes of action, with practically all of them standing, both Fedor and Maldonado left the fight with their faces badly bruised. In the judges' decision, better for the home star: victory for Fedor in the majority decision, as one of the referees declared a draw.
