Wig and soap bubbles steal the show at UFC FN 89 weigh-ins

Even without taking part in one of the main fights at UFC Fight Night 89, in Ottawa, Canada, Sam alvey and Sean O'Connell stole the show at the event's official weigh-in, which took place in the early evening of this Friday (17).

Alvey played with the look of his opponent, Elias Theodorou, known for his long hair, and came in with a wig on the scales. When they came face to face, the two exchanged a gift (a canned drink) and posed for a photo laughing.

O'Connell, famous for making jokes during the weigh-ins of his fights, burst soap bubbles when his opponent, Steve Bossé, approached for the face-off. This time, however, the grace was only on one side of the fight, as Bossé remained serious in his gaze at his rival.

The ceremony held in front of the public was another in the new format adopted by the UFC. In fact, the athletes had already stepped on the scale hours before, between late morning and noon local time. Thus, only the marks obtained previously were read. This is a method that was used for the first time at UFC 199, at the beginning of the month, and is expected to become a trend.

In the main fight of the night, Rory McDonald e Stephen Thompson they recorded exactly 77,3 kg and confirmed the welterweight duel. The only one to extrapolate the weight was Randa markos, who was almost 1 kg over the mark to face Jocely Jones-Lybarger.
