UFC plans stadium event in Ireland for the coming months

The organization's plan is to host a super event, like UFC 198 in Curitiba, within a year and a half

Canada, Sweden, Australia and Brazil. What do these countries have in common? The three hosted major UFC events in football stadiums – on Brazilian soil, in fact, with the recent UFC 198, in Curitiba (PR). And the select list should soon gain another member: Ireland. The Ultimate organization plans to hold an event in a stadium in the land of Conor McGregor soon.

“Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium are two places we've been to, and we've never hidden that. Conor McGregor has also made clear his desire to fight in Dublin. It is an idea that is in our plans. The numbers have begun to approach the level that makes this initiative possible, but there is still a lot of room for progress. I think we are not that far away from being able to make this event viable, but certainly within 18 months, it will happen”, said James Elliot, Ultimate’s representative in Europe, in an interview with the “MMA Nytt” website.

The leader said that, if everything goes well, the plans are to bring a grand numbered card, sold in pay-per-view to the capital Dublin. “We know the huge fan base we have in Ireland, and how big an event in a football stadium would be there. Being able to hold a big numbered event in Dublin would be fantastic for our brand, and we are very focused on that. Seeing the benefits that this tournament would generate for our business is very easy. We just have to convince the right people that this is the right thing to do at the right time,” he assured.
