Fedor Emelianenko will have a surprising opponent in his next MMA fight, on June 17th, at the Fight Nights event, in Russia. According to information on the “Combate” channel website, the legendary Russian heavyweight will face Brazilian Fábio Maldonado, recently fired from the UFC.

Fedor is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters in MMA history. The “Last Emperor”, as he is known, had a remarkable time in PRIDE, becoming the best heavyweight on the planet. During this period, Fedor beat names like Rodrigo Minotauro, Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Coleman, among other legendary fighters in the sport. The Russian was retired for a period of three years, but returned to fighting in December last year, at Rizin, beating Jaideep Singh.

PUBLICITY:

Maldonado left the UFC at the beginning of the year after suffering three losses in his last four fights. In Ultimate, the “Caipira de Aço” had only one fight as a heavyweight, when he faced Stipe Miocic and ended up knocked out in just 35 seconds. After that, the Brazilian had a few more boxing fights in Brazil, but the duel with Fedor will be his first big one since leaving the biggest MMA organization on the planet.
