UFC confirms Dos Anjos' cut and hopes to find new opponent for McGregor

The event's partner channel in the USA and employees of the organization already speak of the Brazilian's departure as a fait accompli

A big bomb shook the MMA community this Tuesday (23), with the announcement that Rafael dos Anjos would have fractured his foot during his training and would be at risk of being left out of the fight against Conor McGregor at UFC 196. Sources linked to Ultimate confirmed Dos Anjos' departure from the event on February 5th and are already talking about a possible replacement for the Brazilian on the card.

UFC's partner television network in the United States, the FOX group announced through the “FOX Sports” channel website that Rafael had been living with a broken foot over the last few days and even tried to stay in the duel, but eventually had to give in and give up the fight. Other names linked to Ultimate, such as narrator Jon Anik and commentator Brian Stann, already treat Dos Anjos' departure as certain and are also talking about possible replacements.

“FOX Sports” also says that the Ultimate organization is working to find a last-minute replacement for Dos Anjos, keeping McGregor, who has already traveled from Ireland to Las Vegas, in the main fight of the night. Names of possible replacements, however, were not mentioned. The co-main event of UFC 196 will pit the bantamweight champion face to face Holly holm and the challenger Miesha Tate.
