With three of the main candidates to challenge Islam makhachev in action, the UFC 300, this Saturday (13), could be crucial in defining the immediate future of the lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg). In the opinion of Chael Sonnen, However, Charles of the Bronx is off the list of those interested in facing the champion.
In a recent edition of ESPN's 'Good Guy Bad Guy' pocast, the former fighter and current commentator accused Charles of the Bronx of not wanting to face Islam makhachev again. “(Charles) Oliveira made it very clear that he does not want to face Islam. He made that clear before they fought in October, when a paper cut canceled that fight,” accused the former fighter.
Another point mentioned by Chael Sonnen was the recent interview with Diego Lima, main coach of Charles of the Bronx, who spoke about the possibility of the Brazilian seeking a fight against Conor McGregor.
“Oliveira and his manager gave, in the last seven days, separate interviews stating that, if they win Arman Tsarukyan, want Conor McGregor. If you're going to sit and wait Conor McGregor, are you unemployed. If you ask to face Conor when someone is trying to give you a world title fight, we can't force you to do something you don't want to do,” concluded Sonnen.
