Protagonist of controversial result against Bruno Blindado at UFC Atlantic City, Chris Weidman revealed that he would retire if he left the octagon with a defeat against the Brazilian. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) admitted that he would abandon the sport if he experienced another setback in his career. Before the clash, the 39-year-old veteran had been without a positive result for almost four years.
“I would probably retire (in case of another defeat). If he didn't perform well, or if he got beat up. I think I would take off the gloves and leave it in the Octagon. I didn’t tell my wife or anyone else, but it was in my plans,” assured Weidman.

Despite the victory, Chris was the target of criticism from the MMA community. In the match against Blindado, the North American was the protagonist of three infractions for fingering the eye, the last illegal act being decisive for the outcome in the last round.
Feeling unfair about the defeat in the technical decision, Bruno promised to file an appeal with the Athletic Commission, with the intention of changing the result. Both the Brazilian Both the former champion were open to a possible rematch.
