Next Saturday (08), in Uberlândia, Mauritius Shogun tries to rediscover the path to victories against Ovince St Preux, in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 56. But nine years ago, the light heavyweight was in a very different situation. The day was August 28, 2005, after winning alistair overeem by technical knockout in the semi-final of the PRIDE middleweight Gran Prix, the Curitiba native Mauritius Shogun would face the carioca Ricardo arona in the grand final of the tournament, held on the same night. The duel was one of the most memorable moments in the historic rivalry between the academies Chute Boxe, from Shogun, and Brazilian Top Team, from Arona.
Shogun would be given the chance to go free after the victory of Ricardo arona about your teammate Wanderlei Silva in the tournament semi-final, held hours before. The Brazilian had one of his most notable and overwhelming performances during his time at the now-defunct Japanese event. With the triumph, Shogun extended his unbeaten run in the PRIDE ring to seven fights at that time and became champion of the highly competitive 2005 middleweight GP.
