In preparation for his first chance to fight for a belt in Ultimate, Ilia Topuria exudes confidence and believes he is the first fighter to defeat Alexander Volkanovsky in the featherweight category (up to 65,7kg.). Optimistic that he will become the new champion in UFC 298, the Spanish-Georgian is already planning to defend his title against Max Holloway, at an event held in Spain.
“So, that's what I think is going to happen that I'm going to beat 'Volk' on February 17th and then I'm going to fight Max Holloway here in Spain. That is my goal now, and I think it will happen”, said Topuria during his participation in the 'OverDogs Podcast'.

Despite the last defeat suffered by Volkanovski, Topuria ignores the negative episode and claims to be preparing for the champion's best.
“For me, what happened in his last fight doesn’t change anything. I know the result will be the same, the training is the same, the focus is the same. I will train for the best in the world and I am sure I will achieve this victory. He has nothing to lose. He already lost. He already knows how that feels, I don’t know how that feels, and I better never prove what that would be like,” he concluded.
The underdog in the bookmakers for the clash, Topuria is looking to achieve a seventh consecutive victory in the organization and become the new featherweight champion. Scheduled for a duel on February 17, the fighters measure strength in the main fight of the UFC 298. So far, the location where the event will take place has not been announced.
