The former welterweight champion felt a 'pop' in his knee in training with Justin Gaethje and puts a 'flea behind the ears' of fans on the eve of facing star Khamzat Chimaev

Last minute call to face Khamzat Shimaev No. UFC 294, the Nigerian Kamaru Usman suffered a small scare during training open to the public for the show. In a grappling session with his team partner Justin Gaethe, the former welterweight champion (up to 77,1kg) whispers to his friend to end the activity because he 'felt a pop' in his knee.

In a light display of grappling with Justin gaethje, Usman throws his friend to the ground and as he falls, the two exchange a few seconds of conversation.

“Are you okay?” asked Gaethje.

“No, something broke”, replied Usman, who stood up with his hand on his left knee and quickly ended the activity.

Kamaru Usman agreed to replace the Brazilian Paulo borrachinha and face the Emirati star Khamzat Shimaev in the co-main event of UFC 294, which takes place this Saturday (21).

Former welterweight champion, Usman is coming off two straight defeats to Leon edwards and decided to move up a category in search of 'new opportunities' for his career. At 36 years old, the 'Nigerian Nightmare' has an MMA record of 20 triumphs and just three setbacks.
