The finals of the 19th edition of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), the UFC's reality show, will take place this Sunday night (06), in Las Vegas. But before the coaches' duel between Frankie Edgar e B.J. Penn and the program's decision in the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions, with the Brazilian Dhiego Lima, the preliminary card was exciting for those who arrived early at the MGM Gran Garden Arena.
With four Brazilians at the opening of the UFC, everyone left the Octagon with victory. Robert Drysdale submitted Keith Berish, Adriano Martins beat Juan Manuel Pulg and Leandro Issa managed to recover against Jumabiele Tuerxun.
Drysdale submits and rival gets injured
Right at the opening of the preliminary card, drama was present in the Octagon. Robert Drysdale, born in the United States, but the son of a Brazilian mother and raised in the country, completed Keith Berish. But his rival ended up getting seriously injured in the fight.
Robert, who is a world jiu-jitsu champion, quickly closed the distance and got the takedown. Once on his back, he prepared to apply the choke, but Berish tried to escape the blow, but his foot got caught and his knee rolled back. The injury was reminiscent of that suffered by football player Ronaldo Fenômeno and scared the public.
Backstage, Robert revealed that he didn't see the injury, as he was focused on getting the finish.
Adriano Martins and Leandro Issa also win
In the following fights, Brazil also left the octagon with triumphs. Adriano Martins and Leandro Issa came from defeat in their last appearances and managed to recover in style.
Issa suffered in the first two rounds with Jumabiele Tuerxun. The Chinese was better at striking and even managed a knockdown. But Brodinho, as the Tupiniquim athlete is known, managed to recover at the end of the fight.
With just over a minute left in the fight, Leandro attempted a guillotine, which was defended by the Chinese. However, he went back to the armbar and reached the submission.
Adriano Martins has shown that he can work in the lightweight division. After being knocked out by Donald Cerrone, the Amazonian was not aware of Juan Manuel Puig.
Adriano found the distance in the first movements and landed strong blows on his rival. Despite receiving a low blow in the exchange, the Brazilian recovered and returned to end the fight.
Two minutes into the fight, Adriano Martins landed a cross to the Mexican's chin, who was already unconscious.
