Often, athletes who stand out in a category end up changing divisions because they no longer face challenges or after going through difficult times, such as negative streaks. Aware of this, the former middleweight champion of the now defunct Strikeforce Luke Rockhold does not rule out playing as a light heavyweight in the future.

“In the 93kg division I feel strong and faster than most of the light heavyweights I train with. There is definitely a possibility that in the near future I will change categories and fight a few times there (at light heavyweight)”, said Rockhold in an interview with the website “MMA Junkie”.

Despite being open to the possibility of fighting in a new division, Luke remains focused on winning the UFC middleweight title. “At this point, without a doubt, it would not be something definitive. It would be more of an experiment, to get some interesting fights. Even because, of course, I have the desire to seek the middleweight belt”, he concluded.

This Wednesday (15), Luke Rockhold is in the main fight of UFC Fight Night 35 against Costa Phillippou. The fight is a chance to rehabilitate the North American, who debuted in Ultimate with a defeat to the Brazilian Vitor belfort in Jaraguá do Sul (SC), after a round kick that competes for the “Best knockout of 2013” award at the “World MMA Awards”.
