The health status of UFC heavyweight fighter Shane del Rosario has not improved and the situation is practically irreversible, according to his manager.

The American athlete suffered a cardiac arrest this Tuesday (26) and was found in his room by his training partner, flyweight Ian McCall. After the ambulance arrived, Del Rosario was revived during medical care and rushed to the hospital.

However, after several treatments, the fighter's condition did not improve. In a last attempt to revive him, doctors applied therapeutic hypothermia, which consists of cooling the patient in order to reactivate vital signs. However, so far the procedure has not shown a response, as the fighter no longer shows brain activity. Attempts will be made until this Friday morning (29).

Even though Del Rosario is still kept clinically alive on life support, the fighter's manager, Jason House, told Canadian reporter Ariel Helwani that there is little hope. According to him, the chances of survival are minimal and a miracle would be needed. Some international vehicles, as well as UFC president, Dana White, have already mourned his death. Doctors recommended that the fighter's family and friends say goodbye this Thursday.

The news was initially given by his coach, Colin Oyama. “The Del Rosario family, myself, our training partners and friends thank everyone for their prayers and support. God has a different path for Shane and has decided to take him with Him closer to his ancestors in heaven. Even with all this, our faith in God remains unshakable,” he said, in a message published on Facebook.

During his career as a professional MMA fighter, Del Rosario accumulated 11 wins and only two losses. After a successful stint in Strikeforce, where he won all three of his fights, the heavyweight had his career momentarily interrupted after he suffered a car accident in which he suffered a herniated disc.

After more than a year away from fighting, he returned to the UFC in May 2012. However, he was defeated by Stipe Miocic, losing his unbeaten record in MMA. Seven months later, he suffered another setback when he was knocked out by Pat Barry.
