Just over a week after putting the light heavyweight belt up for grabs again, the champion Jon Jones abandoned his measured speech and decided to attack his opponent, Chael Sonnen. In an interview with the “UFC Tonight” program, Jones recalled the doping episode experienced by the challenger.

“People know that Chael Sonnen has used steroids his entire career, which is probably why his testosterone is low now. I don’t think that’s the heart or attitude of a champion, so that’s what I meant when I said he doesn’t have the soul of a champion,” he said.

In 2010, after their first defeat to Anderson Silva, at UFC 117, Sonnen was caught in a drug test showing high levels of testosterone. At the time, it was revealed that the North American suffers from hypogonadism – low hormone production. Since then, Chael has resorted to Testosterone Replacement Treatment (TRT) before all of his fights.

Despite the obvious contribution to promoting the fight, it seems that it was not only in front of the cameras that Jones' stance changed. To the website MMA Junkie, UFC president Dana White revealed that, in a conversation with the champion, he said he had never wanted to hurt another athlete he fought as much as he did against Chael Sonnen.
