Anthony Pettis debuts with loss to Clay Collard in the PFL lightweight tournament

Former UFC champion suffered from the volume of blows from his rival and debuted in his 'new home' with defeat

The hyped debut of Anthony Pettis at PFL, this Friday (23), there was an unexpected 'killer'. With an excellent stand-up game, Clay Collard dominated the former UFC champion and won the main fight of the first event of the 2021 season.

With the defeat to Collard, Pettis has interrupted his streak of two consecutive victories. Debuting in the organization, the lightweight was surprised by his opponent's excellent exchange of blows and proved to be an almost harmless opponent. Now, 'Showtime' boasts a record of 24 wins and 11 setbacks.

Entering the main fight as a 'zebra', Clay Collard surprised the fans and put on a great fight. Even though he was hired in 2020, 'Cassius' had not yet debuted in the new company. With his excellent victory over Pettis, Clay now has a record of 19 wins and nine losses.

The fight

It was a ride from the start. Clay Collard showed that he wasn't messing around and dominated the fight on the feet. Anthony Pettis he seemed lost and was unable to react. The American didn't let the former UFC champion breathe and completely dominated the five minutes of the round. The veteran tried to go to the ground to call out his opponent but Collard didn't fall into his trap.

The second round started and went the same way: Clay Collard was supreme on his feet and Pettis didn't even know 'where he was'. 'Cassius' even knocked down his opponent twice. The dominance was evident and was embarrassing for a fighter with so much history in MMA. The round ended with the feeling that it could have been stopped in one of the several sequences of blows suffered by Pettis.

In the final round, Pettis came back a little better, striking more, but he couldn't balance his actions. Collard's standing arsenal seemed like something Anthony couldn't handle. YOUhowtime' he even applied a knee that stunned his opponent, but it was nothing more than a scare.
