It was no secret that the climate between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Justin gaethje, opponents in UFC 254, was friendly. In addition to being managed by the same manager, the athletes exchanged compliments before and after the event and Daniel Cormier, a friend of the former lightweight champion (70,3kg) and who worked as a commentator, revealed a beautiful passage.

In your program on ESPN American, 'DC' said that he spoke to the Russian after his victory and that he preferred to 'erase' the North American rather than cause him a serious injury in front of his parents, who were in Abu Dhabi to see him in action.

“I spoke to Khabib and he knew that Gaethje wouldn't tap out in the submission and that his parents were there, watching. If she didn't hit, she would have a broken arm and Khabib didn't want to hurt Gaethje in front of his parents. That's why he opted for the triangle and deleted it. It’s crazy to be so comfortable in a fight like this and think like that,” Cormier said.

The former light heavyweight (93kg) and heavyweight (120,2kg) champion once again regretted his friend's retirement, because he believes he is at his peak.

“It's annoying, because it seems like Khabib is getting more dominant. Before, there were many victories by decision. Many criticize his performances against Kamal Shalorus and Tibau, but forget that they were veterans and Khabib was just starting out in the UFC. You have to be crazy to criticize him! He has faced tough athletes from start to finish and has submitted great athletes in his last three fights! Khabib is getting better and better and left MMA being at the top”, he concluded.

Khabib Nurmagomedov He retired at the age of 32, as UFC lightweight champion and without losing in his career. For Dana White, Daniel Cormier and Georges St-Pierre, the Russian is the greatest athlete in the history of the sport.
