Former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg), Chris went through a turbulent phase in his career. The athlete, who was once at the top of the category and is known for having overtaken the legendary Anderson Silva, faced a sequence of five defeats in six appearances.

Weidman, however, managed to recover in his last performance, in August, when he surpassed Omari Akhmedov by points. The triumph over the Russian, however, does not erase the American's recent negative record. Chris still needs to prove that he is capable of performing at a high level and a victory over the sensation of the moment could propel him back into a future title shot.
