Usman asks for more time to train and fight against Durinho is out of UFC 256, says website

Fight for the welterweight title, which was never made official for December, should only take place in 2021

The fans of Gilbert Durinho, who dreamed of seeing the Brazilian fight for the welterweight belt (up to 77kg.) this year, will have to wait a little longer. According to 'ESPN' reporter, Ariel Helwani, the division champion, Kamaru Usman, asked for more time to prepare and the clash should not take place on December 12th, at least UFC 256, as was being negotiated.

“The struggle between Kamaru Usman e Gilbert Durinho, for the welterweight belt, will not take place on December 12, according to sources. There is no new date at the moment, but in recent conversations it could be in January or February. Usman needs a little more time. There is no new main fight for the UFC 256,” wrote Ariel.

PUBLICITY:

The Brazilian expectation was that Durinho would make good on his good form and confirm his first UFC title fight in 2020. However, the athlete will have to wait a few months if he wants to fight for the title.

Gilbert was scheduled to fight against Usman on July 11, at UFC 251. The Niteroi native, however, ended up being forced to leave the match after contracting Covid-19, being subsequently replaced by Jorge masvidal.

Currently, the Brazilian is in 2nd position in the group led by the Nigerian. The athlete ended up losing the number one position after the victory of Colby covington about Tyron woodley, on September 19th.
