To the North American website Radio Submission, 'Borrachinha' provoked the champion by mentioning the knockouts he suffered in kickboxing and even promised to kill his opponent.

The Brazilian also recalled the discussion they had on an American ESPN program, considering his opponent insecure and accused him of running away from big fights.
“When I had the opportunity to speak to Adesanya directly, he showed how insecure he is. He showed off his trophies a few times, wanting to say 'Oh, look how good I am'. He needs to prove to people and himself that he is good. If you really believe that you are very good, you don't need to do this kind of thing. Adesanya froze. That's what happened when he met a potential competitor, a real competitor like me. Adesanya is used to running away. He challenged Jones to fight and, when Jones accepted, he said he wasn't ready yet, he needed a year or two to gain more weight and muscle. Unfortunately, Adesanya is that type.”
Confident, 'Borrachinha' revealed that his training sessions are actually fights and sent a message.
“I like to think I'm a tough guy, maybe the toughest guy on the planet. Very hard training, with two or three partners in the same session. I give 100% and that makes me very prepared for real fights, against real opponents like Romero. I'm not afraid of being hit, because my camp is heavy. I am properly prepared. That's the difference between me and Adesanya. I'll delete it! I will definitely delete it. Prepare to be erased, Adesanya”, concluded Paulo.
