Since becoming flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) in July, Deiveson Figueiredo has received insistent attacks from the former rooster leader (up to 61,2kg.). At first, the Brazilian refused the challenge of facing the North American and justified the decision in an interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“I want him to prove he can weigh 56,7kg.) and face someone in my division. After that, if he wins, he can come face me. We don't agree with him jumping the queue and coming straight for a title fight against me. It would be unfair if the UFC put him straight into the belt. I think the UFC has to respect those who worked hard for a title shot,” said the man from Pará.
The flyweight champion also commented on the fact that he believes people underestimate him. The athlete, however, is keen to make it clear that his recent performances speak for themselves.
“I think they see me as a weak fighter, someone who is easily defeated and, every time I fight, I show them that I'm not that guy. I'm a strategist, a killer. I can break their game and knock them out. I can finish them. I can describe what will happen in the fight. I can see it before it happens. You better be prepared, because I'm ready to knock out any of them”, he concluded.
Days after his imposing victory over Joseph Benavidez, which took place on July 18, which gave him the division title, Figueiredo even signed a verbal agreement to face the current number two in the category, Brandon Moreno. The Brazilian is expected to return to the Octagon in November for his first title defense.
