Francisco Massaranduba analyzes the fight against Jai Herbert this Saturday: 'The guy is good'

Brazilian reveals frustration at not facing a ranked opponent, but shows expectations for the weekend's clash

One of the most charismatic Brazilian MMA fighters, Francisco Massaranduba is ready for his 22nd commitment to Ultimate. With a fight scheduled for this Saturday (25), at UFC Fight Island 3, in Abu Dhabi, the lightweight (up to 70,3kg.) analyzed his rival Jai Herbert and hopes to score their third consecutive victory.

“Cool, the guy is good. I want him to release his game there, and I'll release mine. I train to fight with the best. If he's the best, he'll last three rounds. If he's not the best, he won't last the three rounds, no”, said the Brazilian in an interview with 'Combate'.

Although he is pleased to participate in one of the cards on the famous 'Ilha da Luta', Francisco revealed his regrets with the organization for not being selected to face an opponent from the top 15. “I asked for a ranked guy, I asked for a guy with a name, but they said they didn’t have one. But we have to fight. At first, we are a little upset, but we have to accept it. That's our job. So, we have to fight with anyone”, said the athlete.

At 41 years old and close to completing 33 appearances since his debut in professional MMA, Francisco said that he is in very good physical shape for the new challenge. The fighter spoke about the process of preparing for the fight during the pandemic.

“I trained even more than before. (…) In my isolation, I trained in secret. I have a lot of partners my weight. We chose the guys who had the same body type as the guy there and trained normally. I always trained with the same people, with my boys. As we are a pretty big team, there are a lot of people my weight, so there was no shortage of training for me”, he concluded.
