In June of last year, Thiago Marreta shocked the world by promoting one of the biggest challenges of the light heavyweight champion's (up to 93kg) career, Jon Jones. After a five-round battle, the Brazilian ended up defeated by split decision. The fight, however, had severe consequences for the Tupiniquim athlete, who suffered injuries to both knees and required surgery. Almost a year later, Marreta claims to be recovered and, in an interview with 'Ag.Fight', cited the perfect card for his return to the UFC.

“My perfect scenario would be a title fight between Jones and Blachowicz, in the main event, and in the co-main event me against (Dominick) Reyes. Then the winners would face each other for the belt”, explained Thiago.

Like Marreta, Dominick was another fighter who put a big risk on Jones' reign at light heavyweight. In February of this year, the challenger ended up beaten by 'Bones' in a contested decision and officially established himself as a big name for the future of the division.

Currently, Blachowicz is Jones' preferred opponent for his next challenge. The champion has already stated on a few occasions that the Pole should be his next opponent, thus minimizing the chance of facing the Brazilian or Reyes in the near future.

Marreta, however, has other concerns before returning to the sport. The fighter stated that he was close to returning to the United States to continue training until the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic situation worsened around the world.

“The plan was to return to the United States at the beginning of May to start the camp (training period), to perhaps fight in July. Now, we're going to stay in Brazil until everything goes back to normal and we return to America. I'm recovered, trained in everything. Yana (Kunitskaya) and I are training everything, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, sparring. Thank God I can do everything”, he confessed.
