Although the duel between Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson is expected by many MMA fans, one person in particular doesn't seem to share the sentiment. According to Dana White, the current lightweight champion's eternal rival is rooting for the fight to be canceled for the fifth time. The information was disclosed in an interview with 'TMZ Sports'.

“The truth is that Conor (McGregor) believes that (the fight between) Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and Tony Ferguson it won't happen. We've tried to make this fight many times, and McGregor believes it won't happen again. He wanted to do this fight (from UFC 246) at welterweight (up to 77kg.) because he already wants to fight Khabib later, if this fight (with Ferguson) doesn't happen. So, again, we'll see how this happens, but Conor is very focused on this rematch with Khabib”, said the 'boss'.

The fight between the Russian and the American is highly anticipated not only because they are the two best lightweight athletes today. The confrontation increases expectations after analyzing that Ultimate confirmed the dispute between the combatants in four situations. In all cases, the appointment ended up cancelled; twice due to an injury to Khabib and twice due to Ferguson.

While 'Notório' is rooting against the fight between 'Águia' and 'Bicho Papão', the Irishman is preparing for his return to the octagon after more than a year away from MMA. The last time the former featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and lightweight champion was seen in action occurred in October 2018, at UFC 229, when he was defeated by Nurmagomedov in the fight for the category title.

This Saturday (18), Conor exchanges forces with Donald Cerrone and is looking to win again in Ultimate, something that hasn't happened since he became champion in two different divisions of the organization, in 2016, when he beat Eddie Alvarez.

The fight between Khabib and Ferguson, in turn, is confirmed to feature in the UFC 249, on April 18, in New York (USA). This will be Khabib's first performance since he defeated Dustin poirier for the unification of the lightweight belt, in September.
