Khabib's father, however, was fair in stating that the Irishman is not the main option and much less the focus for his son's new fight. For the coach, the most qualified and deserving athlete to face the Russian, at the moment, is the first placed in the ranking, Tony Ferguson, who recently returned to the octagon to have a duel where he won Donald Cerrone.

“Before McGregor, we have to resolve our issues with Tony Ferguson. He has already had 28 fights, and is on a 12-fight win streak, just like Khabib. A fight between two athletes with winning streaks like these has never happened in the UFC. I think Madison Square Garden is a good arena for this fight”, said the father.

The coach, however, minimized any possibility of his son returning to the Octagon at the beginning of the year, as had already been considered. after the UFC 242, Khabib, in an interview, showed extreme exhaustion after he crashed Dustin poirier. At the press conference after the event, the athlete said he needed time to rest.

“We will not fight before March 2020”, highlighted the coach.

Conor and Ultimate are currently studying possible names for the Irishman's return to the octagon, given that the athlete has remained inactive since the meeting against Nurmagomedov.
